Lee Beard, one of the trainers of Ricky Hatton for his upcoming fight against Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao, has predicted that his ward will stop Pacquiao on the sixth round of their 12-round encounter set May 2 in Las Vegas.
Beard admitted he watched Pacquiao train “a couple of times”, noticing lots of mistakes the Filipino did in his previous fights, including the last four in different divisions.
”In this fight, I believe that Manny will make the same mistakes as normal and Ricky will capitalize," Beard said in an interview with London's Daily Telegraph.
"If Ricky does get his shots off when these mistakes are made, this fight could be a lot easier for Ricky than people think,” he added.
Beard said Hatton is doing well in training, sparring fighters at 130 to 135 pounds, including one whom Hatton knocked out with one punch.
Pacquiao made his name at 130lbs where he defeated the likes of former world champions Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Jorge Solis, Oscar Larios and Juan Manuel Marquez.
After ruling the super featherweight division, Pacquiao made a successful debut in the lightweight after dethroning WBC champion David Diaz via ninth round stoppage.
From lightweight, Pacquiao jumped 10-pound higher at 145-lb division where he annihilated former Olympic gold medalist Oscar De La Hoya with an impressive eighth round technical knockout win.
Hatton and Pacquiao will face in the 140-lb division and if the Filipino wins, he will face either Shane Mosley or Flow Mayweather Jr. who defeated Hatton before announcing his retirement. (PNA)
