MANILA, Philippines - Government agents have stepped into the investigation in the shooting of Ted Failon’s wife and are set to invite the ABS-CBN news anchor for questioning.
“Definitely, we will invite Mr. Failon. This is part of the probe," said lawyer Nestor Mantaring, head of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez had ordered the NBI, an agency under the Justice Department, to assist police investigators (PNP) in looking into the circumstances behind Wednesday’s shooting of Trinidad Arteche Etong.
Mantaring said he has tasked the Special Task Force (STF) headed by agent Arnel Dalumpines to conduct a joint investigation with the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).
“This is a joint probe and we will compare notes with the QCPD. All development of the case will be done in close coordination with the police," he said.
Mantaring said Dalumpines and his men are scheduled to have a case conference with QCPD officials Thursday afternoon.
He said the NBI assistance would be in the form of intelligence gathering and even in technical aspect.
“If there is need to tap our forensic experts, doctors, then we are going to tap them," he said.
Mantaring said there is no deadline for the agents to finish the probe, but hoped it could be done “in the next few days."
“we hope that we have development in the next few days," he said. - GMANews.TV
