TOKYO — Japan's defense minister says he will consider mobilizing a missile shield to protect against a North Korean rocket launch.
Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada says he could move PAC-3 missiles from Tokyo to northern Japan to protect the area against fragments that could fall there if North Korea fires a rocket over the country but the launch fails.
North Korea has announced it intends to launch a satellite into orbit sometime between April 4 and 8.
Japan has warned it will do whatever it can to protect its citizens in the event of a North Korean rocket launch.
Earlier Thursday, Japan also warned it would consider imposing more sanctions and take the issue to the United Nations Security Council if North Korea launches a rocket as planned. - AP
